Brightwater Vineyards News and Events
Spring 2010
2010 was an extremely good vintage for us here in Nelson.
The vines naturally cropped quite lightly this season and the summer just seemed to last forever. We had no weather issues at harvest meaning we were able to pick all of our grapes at exactly the time we wanted. All grapes were picked in perfect condition and ripeness.
The first of our 2010 wines have now been bottled and we are extremely pleased them. The Sauvignon Blancs and Pinot Gris are looking particularly good in their young wine state and the Pinot Noir in barrel – very promising indeed. You can look forward to some great Brightwater Vineyards wines this coming summer.
Over the last two months we have been running a competition for our wine lovers here in Nelson. Someone who bought a bottle of Brightwater Vineyards wine from a local wine seller would win a luxury pampered weekend for two in the thermal resort of Hanmer Springs. Spas, accommodation, meals, petrol – the lot.
The competition was drawn live on air the first Friday in August and the winner phoned there and then.
AND THE WINNER IS!!! Gaylene St John. Who was very pleased indeed.
Gaylene came to Brightwater Vineyards, was given a tour of the winery and was presented with her prize. (See photo.)
Our 2009 wines continue to do very well indeed. All of the wines from 2009 released so far have received gold medals.
First of all our Brightwater Vineyards 2009 Riesling was awarded a Gold medal and the Trophy for Champion Riesling at the Liquorland Top 100 International Wine Competition 2009.
Then our Brightwater Vineyards 2009 Pinot Gris was the only Pinot Gris to be awarded a Pure Gold medal at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards in November. The “Pure” aspect of the Pure Gold signifies that this wine has been entirely produced under the New Zealand Winegrowers Sustainability programme.
And then our Brightwater Vineyards 2009 Sauvignon Blanc was awarded a gold medal at the Liquorland Top 100 International Wine Competition 2010.
Looking forward to a nice warm spring
Cheers
Gary
