Lord Rutherford Pinot Noir 2008

Purple red colour.
“A beautifully supple and elegant Pinot Noir displaying dark cherry and berry fruits on the nose with a supple hint of forest floor. The palate shows ripeness, depth and complexity with layers of cherry and savoury characters, fine ripe tannins, and a long rich finish.”

The grapes for this wine were grown on our sustainably certified vineyard at the low cropping rate of 2.0 tonnes per acre. Fastidious shoot thinning, bunch thinning and hand leaf removal ensured that the berries had optimum exposure to the sun. The perfectly ripe Pinot Noir bunches were picked by hand on 27th March 2008.

In the winery the grapes were carefully taken off their stems and left cold to soak for a period before fermentation. A warm ferment on the skins, in small fermenters, with careful cap plunging by hand, enabled us to extract optimum varietal colour and flavour.

The wine was aged in first and second fill french oak barriques for twelve months prior to bottling in order to allow integration between the ripe fruit flavours, tannins and oak, creating this elegant, softly textured Pinot Noir.

Nelson Pinot Noir 2008

“An elegant supple Pinot Noir displaying cherry and berry fruit aromas, combined with forest floor complexity. This fresh, vibrant wine exhibits well integrated ripe tannins, a smooth palate and has a wonderful persistence of flavour.”

This wine is from grapes grown on The Headmaster Vineyard in Ranzau Road, Hope. Careful shoot thinning, bunch thinning and hand leaf removal have given the berries very good exposure to the sun and ensured that they were perfectly ripe at the time of picking.

In the winery the grapes were carefully taken off their stems and left cold to soak for a period before fermentation. A warm ferment on the skins with careful cap plunging by hand enabled us to extract optimum varietal colour and flavour.

The wine was aged in french oak barriques for nine months prior to bottling. This allowed the tannins and oak to integrate fully with the ripe fruit flavours, creating this elegant, vibrant Pinot Noir.
