Lord Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc 2008“This is a concentrated full bodied sauvignon with lifted aromas of currants and gooseberries. The palate is mouth filling and rich featuring capsicum, passionfruit and citrus minerality. This leads into an intense lime and summer grass finish that lingers on and on.”
This single vineyard sauvignon is from our sustainably certified home vineyard.
Approximately half of the grapes represent the youthful vitality of the second crop of grapes from very young vines planted around the winery building. This portion, picked on 20th March contributes fresh vibrant aromatic flavours to the wine. Balanced against this are grapes from mature 15 year old vines in the same vineyard. This portion, picked on 1st April contributes body and texture to the wine.
Each portion underwent gentle reductive handling in the winery followed by a cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks using different yeasts. The portions were matured separately then, after careful blending trials, blended together to make one distinctive Sauvignon Blanc displaying the best qualities that each separate portion had to offer.

Nelson Sauvignon Blanc 2009“Wonderful aromas of passionfruit and citrus introduce this fresh, aromatic full bodied wine. The palate is well balanced with lifted citrus and gooseberry characters, threaded minerality, and that characteristic dry grass finish of Sauvignon Blanc.”
While half the grapes for this wine have come from our own sustainably certified home vineyard the other half are from the vineyard of Dave and Nikki Pritchard which is managed by us.
The grapes were harvested in several individual picks, each at different stages of ripeness, each pick contributing a different aspect of Sauvignon Blanc flavour to the final blend and also ensuring a nice balance between acidity and sweetness in the finished wine.
Each pick was kept separate in the winery. The handling was gentle and reductive with cool fermentation to dryness (2.8gm/l residual sugar) in stainless steel tanks using carefully selected yeast strains. The portions were matured separately then, after careful blending trials, selected tanks were blended together bringing into balance all the various fruit flavours and characters available in each of the separate components.

Lord Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc 2009 “An intensely aromatic sauvignon featuring red currants and gooseberries on the nose. The palate is crisp and lively with capsicum and gooseberry characters and a juicy lime minerality. This is followed by a long lingering citrus fruit finish.”
This sauvignon represents a special selection of grapes from two of our vineyards on the Hope Plains. Approximately half of the grapes represent the youthful vitality of the first crop of grapes from young vines planted at the Sturkenboom vineyard. This portion, picked on 2nd April, contributes fresh vibrant aromatic flavours to the wine. Balanced against this is an equal portion of free run juice from mature 16 year old vines in our home vineyard. This portion, picked on 15th April, is also high aromatic and contributes intensity and concentration to the palate.
Each portion underwent gentle reductive handling in the winery followed by a cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks using selected yeast strains. The portions were matured separately then, after careful blending trials, blended together to make one distinctive Sauvignon Blanc displaying the best qualities that each separate portion had to offer.
