Abbey's Run Merlot 2009

“This deeply coloured Merlot features aromas of dark plum and wild blackcurrants. The generous palate displays plum, dark chocolate and spicy fruitcake characters, combining subtle french oak and supple tannins leading into a wonderful lingering finish.”

The grapes for this wine were grown in our sustainably certified vineyard on the rows directly in front of the tasting room. The bunches were thinned by hand prior to ripening to ensure that the remaining grapes were concentrated and fully ripened at picking.

In the winery the grapes were removed from their stems and left cold to soak for a period before fermentation. A warm ferment on the skins with careful cap plunging by hand enabled us to extract optimum varietal colour and flavour.

The wine was aged in french oak barriques for ten months prior to bottling in order to fully integrate the ripe fruit flavours with the tannins of the barrels and to soften the texture of this medium bodied wine.

Lord Rutherford Merlot 2006

“This is a concentrated full bodied Merlot featuring dark plum,
chocolate and forest floor aromas. It is mouth filling, elegant and
complex displaying ripe, firm tannins with finely integrated french oak leading into a long generous finish.”

The grapes for this wine were grown in our sustainably certified vineyard on the rows directly in front of the tasting room. About one third of the bunches were removed by hand prior to ripening to ensure that the remaining grapes were concentrated and fully ripened. Almost all the leaves around the bunches were removed by hand to ensure that the berries had full exposure to the sun.

The grapes were carefully handled in the winery undergoing warm fermentation on the skins with regular cap plunging by hand to extract optimum varietal colour and flavour.

The wine was aged in french oak barriques for twelve months then further aged for another three months prior to bottling in order to fully integrate the ripe fruit flavours with the spicy oak characters of the barrels and to add fullness to the body of this soft textured wine.
