Nelson Chardonnay 2008This highly aromatic Chardonnay features aromas of fresh peaches and stonefruit backed by sweet spicy notes. It is finely textured with an elegantly smooth palate. Citrus and stonefruit characters combine with subtle french oak to lead into a seductively long finish.
The grapes for this wine were grown at low cropping rates on our sustainably certified home vineyard. The leaves around the bunches were removed by hand to ensure plenty of exposure to the sun. Selective bunch thinning enhanced and intensified the varietal character of the Chardonnay. Nicely ripened bunches were harvested in two separate picks capturing a variety of Chardonnay flavours and characteristics.
In the winery the grapes were whole bunch pressed and fermented to dryness in seasoned french oak barriques. A portion of the wine was aged on yeast lees and underwent malolactic fermentation. Both portions were matured for 10 months then blended to create an elegant and finely balanced wine.

Lord Rutherford Barrique Chardonnay 2008Straw colour.
A full bodied, barrique fermented Chardonnay with intense aromas of hazelnuts and ripe citrus. This is an elegantly structured wine with concentrated citrus flavours. The palate is well balanced, with integrated premium french oak, leading into a clean lingering finish.
The grapes for this single vineyard wine are a special pick from our own sustainably certified vineyard. The vines selected for this wine have low vigour ensuring that the leaf canopy was nicely in balance and the cropping level was naturally very low. Perfectly ripened bunches of clones 6, 15 and Mendosa Chardonnay were picked by hand on 28th March 2008.
The handling in the winery was very gentle. The grapes were whole bunch pressed and the juice transferred to french oak barriques for fermentation. The 100% barrique fermentation involved 25% new oak barrels. The wine has undergone malolactic fermentation and aged on yeast lees for 10 months. The best barrels were then selected and blended together to create an elegant, full bodied, finely balanced and complex wine.
